Sangat (Congregation)

(Ang 10)
jo sathigur suran sungath nehee aaeae dhrig jeevae dhrig jeevaas
Those who have not sought the Sanctuary of the True Guru and the Sangat, the Holy Congregation-cursed are their lives, and cursed are their hopes of life. 3

Guru sahib is telling us in this Shabad if we do not recognize Shabad as being our true Guru and the Sangat in which are infused in Naam, cursed are our lives and cursed are the hopes of life. This is a slap in our face by Guru sahib.

(Ang 10)
dhun dhunn suthusungath jith har rus paaeiaa mil jun naanuk naam purugaas
Blessed, blessed is the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, where the Lord's Essence is obtained. Meeting with His humble servant, O Nanak, the Light of the Naam shines forth. 44

Only that Sangat is called the true Sangat where the essence of the Lords Name shines forth, no other Sangat is known as the true and pure Sangat. This Sangat will only be blessed to us with Guru Sahibs Kirpaa only if we hold the desire of meditating on the Lords Name within our hearts.

(Ang 10)
maerae maadho jee suthusungath milae s thariaa
O my Dear Lord of souls, one who joins the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, is saved.

Guru Sahib is saying one who joins the true congregation of Naam will be liberated from this World no other soul will be liberated. Souls will come and go until they receive the blessing of Guru Sahibs Ammrit, Rehit and Naam, only then will they be liberated. We as Gursikhs do not realize how fortunate we are, we have been blessed with Ammrit Naam, it doesn’t take a genius to work out how many life forms we have been through to receive the blessing of Ammrit Naam, Guru Sahib says in Gurbaanee only blessed ones receive the Ammrit of Naam.

(Ang 22)
keemath kinai n paaeeai ridh maanuk mol amol
No one has found the worth of the ruby of the heart; its value cannot be estimated. 1

bhaaee rae har heeraa gur maahi
O Siblings of Destiny, the Diamond of the Lord is within the Guru. ]

suthusungath suthugur paaeeai ahinis subadh sulaahi
The True Guru is found in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. Day and night, praise the Word of His Shabad. 1Pause

In this Shabad Guru Sahib is saying, no one has found the ruby of the heart (Vahiguroo). Gods value cannot be estimated, the diamond of the Lord can only be received from the true Guru (Shabad-Guru).

The True Guru is found in the Sat Sangat, Guru Sahib is referring to God being the True Guru, to become one with God we have to praise the Shabad Vahiguroo with every breath within the Sangat. When we are separated from physical Sangat, Guru Sahibs Shabad becomes our Sat Sangat, (true Sangat). Without the name we cannot live, just like a Fish cannot live without Water, a Gursikh will die through the separation of Naam.

(Ang 29)
vuddai bhaag suthusungath paaee har paaeiaa sehaj anundh
By great good fortune, I found the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation; I have found the Lord, with intuitive ease and ecstasy. 2

so saadhoo bairaagee soee hirudhai naam vusaaeae
That person is a Holy Saadhu, and a renouncer of the world, whose heart is filled with the Naam.

anthar laag n thaamus moolae vichuhu aap guvaaeae
His inner being is not touched by anger or dark energies at all; he has lost his selfishness and conceit.

As mentioned above only through great fortune and many reincarnations does one find the Sat Sangat, that person becomes a great Saint who renounces the World through the lords Name, one always lives in positive energies, negativity does not come close to the inner being of ones heart in which is filled with Naam.

(Ang 30)
pothai jin kai punn hai thin suthusungath maelaae
Those who have the treasure of goodness join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. 1

Those who are blessed with virtue by Guru Sahib join the true congregation of Naam, Guru Sahib has created this amazing game, where he will make people what they are, without people realizing who the doer really is. Guru Sahib blesses people with virtue on the other hand people will be full of vice, Guru Sahib makes people rich on the other hand people will struggle through poverty, Guru Sahib blesses us with the fruit of Naam, on the other hand Naam will not settle in the minds of some. This is all to do with how pure our hearts are, and our previous Karam (deeds), however this does not give us the excuse to not put the udham (effort) in to Japping Naam.

(Ang 1244)
ninm birukh buhu suncheeai anmrith rus paaeiaa
You can water a bitter neem tree with ambrosial nectar.

biseear munthr visaaheeai buhu dhoodh peeaaeiaa
You can feed a venomous snake lots of milk.

munumukh abhinn n bhijee puthur naavaaeiaa
The self-willed manmukh is resistant; he cannot be softened. You might as well water a stone.

bikh mehi anmrith sincheeai bikh kaa ful paaeiaa
Irrigating a poisonous plant with ambrosial nectar, only poisonous fruit is obtained.

naanuk sungath mael har subh bikh lehi jaaeiaa
O Lord, please unite Nanak with the Sangat, the Holy Congregation, so that he may be rid of all poison. 16

Vahiguroo in this Shabad Guru Sahib explains the importance of Sangat, Guru Sahib says the human mind is so filthy it cannot be cleansed, softened or rid from its ego until it comes in to Sangat. Those Gursikhs who think they don’t need Sangat and can conquer the filthy mind without doing Sangat will fail and suffer through personal ego. The Gurmukh Japs Naam and stays Nimaanaa (humble) to the Sangat no matter what Avasthaa (spiritual stage) one reaches. Guru Sahib has given the Sangat a great deal of respect even if it is what a lot of Gursikhs call, everyday Sunday Divaan Aam (normal) Sangat. We still need to stay Nimaane and may be one will change through the presence of a Gursikh attending Divaans.

(Ang 35)
aapunaa bho thin paaeioun jin gur kaa subudh beechaar
Those who contemplate the Word of the Guru’s Shabad are filled with the Fear of God.
suthusunguthee sudhaa mil rehae suchae kae gun saar
They remain forever merged with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation; they dwell upon the Glories of the True One.

dhubidhaa mail chukaaeean har raakhiaa our dhaar
They cast off the filth of their mental duality, and they keep the Lord enshrined in their hearts.

Those Gurmukhs who have done Sangat with Naam Abhiyaasee Gurmukhs will know the feeling of separation when they depart. Once we have experienced this Sangat it becomes a Drug and it is very difficult to let go, the Gurmukh just wants it to last forever, however unfortunately we are all living householder lives and somewhere along the line one has to depart. There is no Sat Sangat where the lords Name does not abide even if we are talking to Gursikhs. If we are talking about the Lord this is also known as Sangat in Gurbaanee, even if it is not with a Gursikh, as long as we are sharing the qualities of Gods wisdom this is known as Sat Sangat.

(Ang 1300)
kutheeai sunthusung prubh giaan
Speak of God's Wisdom in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation.

There are many types of Sangats most of them according to Guru Sahib have to be avoided.

MANMUKHA DI SANGAT, Doing Sangat with humans who are totally led by their mind is a no no in Sikhee. This can be very dangerous for a Gursikh, one who falls in this trap will totally suffer in life physically and spiritually, as these people have nothing in common with our Rehit, roop, and cannot guide us spiritually. However the circumstance would be slightly different if the Gurmukh doing Sangat with the Manmukh was an Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyasee, this individual would be more spiritually powerful than the Manmukh and would be a lot more Jaagrat (aware) of all negative vibes coming from the Manmukh, plus the Gurmukh would only ever talk about God, as this is the name the Gurmukh is repeating within ones innerself. This would either create the Manmukh to change spiritually, or totally avoid the Sangat of the Gurmukh. However in general Gursikhs avoid any type of close contact with any being in which drives them away from God, this is the reason most Gurmukhs keep themselves to themselves, this prevents any mind pollution, helps keep full concentration on Naam, help us not to judge others, and live in Bhaanaa (the will), the World seems a mere play to such Gurmukh.

jio lohaa thariou sung kaasutt lag subadh guroo har paavaigo
As iron is carried across if it is attached to wood, one who is attached to the Word of the Guru's Shabad finds the Lord. 2

sungath sunth miluhu suthusungath mil sungath har rus aavaigo
Joining the Society of the Saints, joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, you shall come to receive the Sublime Essence of the Lord.

bin sungath kurum kurai abhimaanee kat paanee cheekurr paavaigo
But not joining the Sangat, and committing actions in egotistical pride, is like drawing out clean water, and throwing it in the mud. 3
Ang 1308

SOCIALIZING WITH GURSIKHS; it is ok to an extent, but this is not what Sangat is about, Guru Sahib says in Gurbaanee anything in which is a hindrance to meditating on Naam should be avoided. Daas has seen many Gursikhs in Kirtan programs wasting time in Langar halls one will not be liberated by doing so. In reality Daas' personal view and experience if one wants to build a great Naam Abhiyassee Jeevan and continue to develop spiritually one has to avoid the social circle of Gursikhs. In reality what happens? We go to Gursikhs Houses, talk a bit about Gurmat and usually without realizing spend most our time in idle gossip and chat. Naam has not been repeated for a few hours, but one has experienced great Kan Ras (taste for ears), which will cause one to do the Sangat of these Gursikhs regularly. We are empty inside when we experience the various Indreeaan they Ras (eyes, ears, tongue) etc we enjoy it and naturally want more, when we naturally want more of worldly Ras we loose the Universes largest power Naam Ras.

Only the one name will liberate the Soul, purify this filthy mind full of many thoughts and desires from many life times, only the one name will open the tenth gate and develop contact with the 3 Worlds, only the one name will gain one honor and respect, only the one name will find us the lotus feet of Guru Sahib.

In reality Guru Sahib has said in Gurbaanee there is only one Sangat in which will liberate this filthy mind, and this is the Sangat of Shabad. There will come a time for many individuals where one will struggle to find Sangat, at this time only the power of the Lords name will pull us through and keep our minds strong on the path of Gurmat.

What exists? THE ONE NAME AND NOTHING ELSE. FROM THE ONE NAME EVERYTHING WAS CREATED.

(Ang 71)

How is the Society of the Saints to be known?

There, the Name of the One Lord is chanted.

The One Name is the Lord's Command; O Nanak, the True Guru has given me this understanding. 5

Twenty-Four Hours Daily

We always state that we have given our head to Guru Sahib, we have taken Ammrit, we will walk backwards in Guru Sahibs Hazooree because we don’t want to turn our back towards Guru Sahib, we say we are in Hukum, we say we keep Guru Sahibs Tat (true) Rehit, we say we rise early in the mornings, we say we keep every Asool (rule) a Gursikh should keep, in terms of eating only at the house of other Amritdhaaree gursikhs, only eating out of the hands of other Sarbloh Bibekee Gursikhs, always wearing Baanaa. WE SAY WE WILL NEVER TURN OUR BACK ON GURU SAHIB.

aath pehur prubh dhiaae thoon gun goeindh nith gaao
Twenty-four hours a day, meditate on God. Constantly sing the Glories of the Lord of the Universe. 1Pause

this kee surunee pur munaa jis jaevudd avur n koe
Seek His Shelter, O my mind; there is no other as Great as He.

Lets ask ourselves are we really in Hukum?
Have we already turned our back towards Guru Sahib?
Have we really given our head to Guru Sahib?
Have we really tasted the true Ammrit?
Do we really keep the Rehit Guru Sahib is asking us to keep, the Rehit stated in Guru Granth Sahib again and again?
We rise early in the mornings but are we awake for the rest of the day?

We keep the Rehit of our physical body in terms of what goes in, but do we eat the real food, the food in which will purify our mind, body and soul, the food in which will liberate us and liberate the blessed ones around us, are we eating drinking and sleeping this food?
We are wearing the Baanaa on the outside, what state is our Baanaa on the inside?
What is the state of the Baanaa of the mind?

jeea junth sabh jin keeeae aath pehur this jaap
Meditate twenty-four hours a day on the One who created all beings and creatures.

What is the true Rehit, Hukum (command) given to us by Guru Sahib in Guru Granth Sahib Jee, there is one Hukum and that is the command of Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas (24/7) with every breath. Do we follow this command? If we don’t we are still Manmukhs following the way of this filthy mind, Guru Sahib says in Gurbaanee, if we miss Naam for one second this is a thought wasted in evil, this is the time we are living in Kaljug, (the age of darkness), when we are remembering the beautiful feet of Guru Sahib Jee this is the time we are living in Satjug (the age of truth). Kaljug and Satjug is a state of mind we can live in whichever state we choose the choice is ours, through sincere effort and blessing we will live in the state of Satjug, through apathy and laziness we live in the state of Kaljug, the choice is ours.

hulath pulath mukh oojulae saachae kae gun saar
In this world and in the world hereafter, radiant are the faces of those who cherish and enshrine the Glories of the True Lord.

aath pehur gun saarudhae ruthae rung apaar
Twenty-four hours a day, they lovingly dwell upon His Glories; they are imbued with His Infinite Love.

What is the reason we do not follow this Hukum of Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas? But we are willing to keep physical Rehits to the extreme and think Guru Sahib will bless us for keeping such Rehits without the vaasaa (presence) of Naam within us, the only time Guru Sahib will bless his Gursikhs with Chardee kallaa is when we Jap Naam Athai Pehar with every breath, this is the Hukum we choose to ignore or we find very difficult, but this is the Hukum in which will only bring us Divine-knowledge, love, compassion, and the liberation of many souls.

saachee poonjee such sunjumo aath pehur gun gaao
The True Capital, and the True Way of Life, comes by chanting His Glories, twenty-four hours a day.

We say we should never turn our back towards Guru Sahib in his Hazooree, Daas agrees, but in reality we turn our back towards Guru Sahib every second of the day, because in reality we are not in Guru Sahibs Hukum and we are not following his command. Guru Sahib says in Gurbaanee, my back will be towards the one who turns his back towards God by not remembering the one who created us and give us the opportunity of human life to become one with God again. Our Gurus were, are and will only be in love with the almighty Lord and will only bless the ones who are in love with the almighty Lord Vaahiguroo.

such khaanaa such painunaa suchae suchaa naao
True is the food, and true are the clothes, of those who chant the True Name of the True One. 2

saas giraas n visurai suful moorath gur aap
With each breath and morsel of food, do not forget the Guru, the Embodiment of Fulfillment.

gur jaevudd avur n dhisee aath pehur this jaap
None is seen to be as great as the Guru. Meditate on Him twenty-four hours a day.

When we took Ammrit the Panj asked us for our heads and we promised them from that day our head was Guru Sahibs, when Guru Jee asked for our heads he explained, this death is even more difficult than physical death, even then we agreed and said, that is fine, Guru Jee said it is sharper than a Sword and finer than a Hair will you be able to play this game of love? We all agreed, Guru Jee taught us how to Meditate and said take this away with you and remember the name with every breath, we all agreed, Guru Jee told us our Rehit we all agreed, we all came in crying and dying for Ammrit and nobody would have liked to be turned away, but did we realise what we are actually getting ourselves in to? Did we realise from this day onwards our old self is dead and we are born again through Amrit, Rehit and Naam? Have we really given our head to Guru Sahib? Sorry to say most of us lied to Guru Sahib, as we have not sold our minds to Guru Sahib through Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas, but this is a must do in the rules of Guru Jee, if we do not meditate Athai Pehar, this might sound strong but we have not really given our heads to Guru Sahib. This is the reason in the Praatan (earlier) times Gursikhs had to sit through full Akhand Paaths in order to receive Amrit-Naam, even then some were tested and sent back without being blessed with Ammrit. We walk in to an Amrit Sanchaar knowing the Panj will not physically take our heads so we have no Bhea (fear), this is why Guru Sahib physically took the heads of our beloved Panj Pyaare. WE ONLY GIVE OUR HEAD WHEN WE GIVE OUR MIND TO GURU SAHIB AND THROUGH PURIFICATION OF NAAM.

aath pehur govindh gun gaaeeai bisur n koee saasaa jeeo
Twenty-four hours a day, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe. Do not forget Him, for even one breath. 1

Have we really tasted the true Amrit? What is Amrit? Mrit means death, Amrit means the opposite; immortal, how do we become immortal beings? Only through Naam will we become immortal beings. The true Ammrit is Amrit-Naam, this is the substance in which will liberate us and liberate thousands around us, but to awaken this substance of Ammrit inside us we have to take the support of Amrit-Naam through single minded Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas, when this Amrit rises from the Naval to the Dasam Duaar and one becomes in touch with the third world this is the time when one becomes immortal and lives ones life in ecstasy, in total detachment of the World whilst living in the World. THIS IS TRUE AMRIT; ATHAI PEHAR NAAM ABHIYAAS.

aath pehur thudh jaapae puvunaa
Twenty-four hours a day, the wind breathes Your Name.

Even the Wind meditates on God 24/7, why shouldn’t we?

We all talk about keeping physical Rehit, Daas agrees it is very important in Gursikhi to keep physical Rehit and self-discipline, but Daas would also like to say we as Gursikhs put more emphasis on physical Rehit than Man Di Rehit (the Rehit of the mind), they are both as important as each other, one cannot live without the other, they both tie hand in hand, but Daas believes if we keep extreme physical Rehits we should most definitely keep an extreme Man Di Rehit (discipline of mind), as this is the Rehit repeated to us by the Gurus, Bhagats, and Bhatts in the Guru Granth Sahib. Just as we feel lost making mistakes or slacking in our physical Rehit we should feel even more lost and slack if not Japing Naam, as nothing is Parvaan (accepted) if it is not accompanied by the Lords Name Vahiguroo, if it is not accompanied by the Lords name it becomes SiaaNap (cleverness), there should strictly be no Til (slacking) when Japping the Lords name, as there should be no slack in our physical Rehit.

Daas has heard Gursikhs in the past saying only those who keep the Rehit of Sarbloh Bibek are the true RehitVaan Gursikhs, this is a very narrow minded, judgemental of others and egotistical statement, as there were, are, and always will be very spiritual Gursikhs in the Panth without keeping the Rehit of Sarbloh, the true Gurmukh keeps this additional Rehit but never emphasises one can only be Pooran (pure) through keeping this Rehit, as one can be liberated without the additional Rehit of Sarbloh. We need to accept others and not judge them for being Tillay (slack), as they might be a lot more Abhiyaasee than us, and we will never know what Karam (deeds) an individual Soul has brought with it, we need to focus on our own individual Jeevans (lives) and leave the rest to Guru Sahib, get rid of the 'I' and let people be. Daas has respect for those Gursikhs who adopt such sacrifice in their life, but Daas has to say this Rehit is worthless without the breath of Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas. Guru Sahib says the true Warrior and RehitVaan Gursikh is the one who battles with ones mind with every breath of ones life. This is the most difficult Rehit to keep (Samaal), but one becomes the true Soora (warrior) in the eyes of the Lord.

naanuk so sooraa vureeaam jin vichuhu dhusutt ahunkurun maariaa
O Nanak, he is a brave warrior, who conquers and subdues his vicious inner ego.

gurumukh naam saalaahi junum suvaariaa
Praising the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the Gurmukhs redeem their lives.

aap hoaa sudhaa mukuth subh kul nisuthaariaa
They themselves are liberated forever, and they save all their ancestors.

Those who love the Naam look beauteous at the Gate of Truth.

munumukh murehi ahunkaar murun vigaarriaa
The self-willed manmukhs die in egotism-even their death is painfully ugly.

subho vuruthai hukum kiaa kurehi vichaariaa
Everything happens according to the Lord's Will; what can the poor people do?

aapuhu dhoojai lag khusum visaariaa
Attached to self-conceit and duality, they have forgotten their Lord and Master.

naanuk bin naavai subh dhukh sukh visaariaa
O Nanak, without the Name, everything is painful, and happiness is forgotten. 1

IT IS A MUST DO BY GURU SAHIB OF ATHAI PEHAR NAAM ABHIYAAS WITH EVERY BREATH, IF WE ARE KEEPING A CERTAIN REHIT WHILST NOT JAPING NAAM WE ARE OUT OF HUKUM.

jin dheenee sobhaa vaddiaaee
He has given you fame and greatness;

this prubh ko aath pehur dhiaaee
meditate on that God, twenty-four hours a day. 1

We rise early in the mornings do a solid Amrit Velaa, but are we awake for the rest of the day? NO, most of the time we are asleep during the day, as we are not in Hukum of Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas, and whilst doing our worldly chores we are not supported by Naam, for this we will never find peace and never be blessed by Guru Sahib, holding the Naam close to the Heart is a must do for a Gursikh. We do Amrit velaa in a morning our whole life should be an Amrit Velaa, obviously the concentration will be slightly weaker to begin with, but as time goes on the concentration will come in to Tikkaa (steady) develop its self further, and there will be a time when the world seems totally false and we will be able to totally switch off from the world, there will definitely be a time with Guru Sahibs kirpaa (blessing) when our lives will become a walking Amrit Vela. Some people will disagree and say they don’t want this state of mind, but through Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas, this state of mind will be blessed to us by Guru Sahib when Guru Sahib knows we can do its Samaal (keep it controlled). There are many stages, there becomes times when Gursikhs want to get up and dance through the ecstasy of Naam and Shabad, but these states of mind need to be controlled by the individuals. This is also mentioned in Gurbaanee as Nirt.

aath pehur jihuvae aaraadh
Twenty-four hours a day, O tongue, dwell upon God, the Unfathomable, Supreme Lord and Master.

eehaa oohaa sudhaa suhaelee
Here and hereafter, you shall be happy forever.

We keep the Rehit of our physical body in terms of what goes in, but do we eat the real food, the food in which will purify our mind, body and soul, the food in which will liberate us and liberate the blessed ones around us, are we eating drinking and sleeping this food? NO most of us are not eating, drinking and sleeping this food, Naam is the only form of food in which will purify this filthy mind been blackened for many lifetimes, nothing else will not even be able to scratch a speck of dirt off this filthy mind. We need to make Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas our food, we cannot live without food just as the fish cannot live without water and the Bhagats cannot live without Naam. If Naam has the power to purify this filthy mind and liberate our soul, don’t we think it can purify what goes inside us physically? If what we eat and touch is accompanied by the breath of the Lords name, then it is also blessed and purified by God, as there is no larger power than God. Guru Sahib says in Gurbaanee Naam is the Universe, so why can't it purify what goes inside us physically? It can but a Gursikh should always strive for self discipline and realise there is no larger Rehit than the Rehit of the mind, conquer the mind through Athai Pehar Abhiyaas and we conquer the Universe. We always judge others by saying we will not eat from others, as they are not Amritdhaaree and are not blessing the food they cook through the name of the Lord, Daas agrees but have we ever asked ourselves the question, if they are not meditating whilst cooking, are we meditating whilst eating, because if we are the food we eat will be purified through Naam. We should never judge others we should practice being the dust of the feet of all beings, as this is the state of mind of a Pooran Gursikh. We should try to look at Sikhee through the eyes of God, as God loves all beings equally and would never discriminate against any other, isn’t this the state of mind we want, sometimes we loose our loving state of mind and simple principles of Gurmat, e.g. compassion, tolerance, contentment, patience, love, giving and many other virtues through extreme rules, which in the end without realising leads to ignorance and haumai (ego)

aath pehur poojuhu gur pair
Twenty-four hours a day, I worship the Guru's Feet. 1

ab math binusee dhusutt bigaanee
Now, my evil sense of alienation is eliminated,

How does Naam liberate people around us? Firstly only blessed ones by Guru Sahib will be attracted in to the Sangat of Abhiyaasees, secondly our profit of Naam will rub off on them through Aura energy and blessing of Guru Sahib, this strengthens their minds and also makes them Abhiyaasees, in the same way people will be attracted to this individual also, it becomes a circle. Bhai Randhir Singh and Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindraawaale were great examples; they were always in the sangat of Abhiyaasee Gursikhs and vice versa.

thiaag sugul siaanupaa aath pehur prubh jaap
So renounce all your cleverness, and meditate on God, twenty-four hours a day. 2

We are wearing the Baanaa on the outside, what state is our Baanaa like on the inside?
What is the state of the Baanaa of the mind? The true Baanaa is purifying the Baanaa of the mind with Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas, Naam is the Baanaa we should be wearing on the inside at all times, once the Baanaa of the mind is cleansed through Naam and becomes Nirmal (pure) then we will most definitely be forced to wear the uniform of the Khalsa to cover our Sareer (body) on the outside. Naam comes before everything, everything comes from Naam, we slowly reach the state of Sehj (Nivaana) through Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas, and life becomes very much easier to live, Girastee (householders life) does not affect such blessed souls, and this is when we live in the true Hukum of Guru Sahib which is Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas, please remember Guru Sahib has told us there is nothing equal to Naam. BHUL CHUK MAAF.

aath pehur har naam simuruhu chulai thaerai saathae
Twenty-four hours a day, dwell upon the Lord's Name in meditation; it alone shall go along with you.

Only the profit of Naam shall go with our soul to the world here after and nothing else.

sae bhuguth sae thuth giaanee jin ko hukum munaaeae
They are devotees, with the essence of spiritual wisdom, who obey the Hukam of His Command. 6

eaehaa bhugath suchae sio liv laagai bin saevaa bhugath n hoee
This is devotional worship, that one loves the True Lord; without service, one cannot be a devotee.

jeevuth murai thaa subudh beechaarai thaa such paavai koee
If one remains dead while yet alive, he reflects upon the Shabad, and then, he obtains the True Lord. 7

Only through following Hukum of Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas will we be recognised as true devotees of the Lord Vahiguroo.

In this Shabad Guru Arjan Dev Jee tells us we are living in a dream like state, we are intoxicated by attachment to our families, we worship the pleasure of our senses, we have false desires, which we expect to come true.

Guru Sahib is telling us the wealth of Naam is within us, but we do not find even a tiny bit of its mystery.

(Ang 258)

That Gurmukh who has eradicated doubt, fear and attachment,

naanuk thaeh purum sukh paaeiaa
O Nanak, obtains supreme peace. 40

Guru Sahib tells us in this Shabad, why are we wasting our time this World is just a mere dream nothing here really exists we are the ones who have caused pleasure and delight to exist through the evil of delusion and doubt.

Doubt is only eradicated through Athai Pehar Naam Abhiyaas (24,7 Simran), which will create great faith in our hearts for Guru Sahib and God.

The angelic beings, 'Gods', 'Goddesses', Siddhs, Seekers and even Brahma were deluded by doubt because they had no Pooran (pure) Guru who could pass over the teachings of Naam and give them Naam.

(Ang 218)

O servant Nanak, one who knows the world to be unreal, dwells in the Sanctuary of the Lord. 22

Vaaho Guru Teghbahadur Jee one who knows the World to be unreal, dwells in the sanctuary of the Lord. Whatever we see shall pass away, it is like a dream in the night, we have forgotten the Lords Name Vahiguroo, we think we will live forever. Life is an experience we are here to become one with the Lord and experience hell on Earth, this Hell we can very easily turn in to Heaven through constant loving devotion of the Lords Name, which in turn will bring, peace, happiness, contentment and love. The Hell we are living in is a mere state of mind, the mind can very easily dwell in the age of Satjug (age of truth), only through Athai Pehar (24,7) loving devotion of Guru Sahibs beautiful Name.

We have to live in this World in a way as if it does not exist, nothing should affect a God-conscious being, as the Gurmukh will always be aware I am not in control, there is a higher power (Vaahiguroo), which helps us accept Guru Sahibs will and makes our minds very much stronger, content and peaceful. We have to live but die to this materialistic world, only in this way will we find true inner peace and be accepted in the court of the Lord.

Guru Arjan Dev Jee is doing an Ardaas (prayer) for us in this Shabad, saying O'Lord the people of this world are blind and asleep, they are living in a dream like state, please forgive them and unite them with yourself.

Guru Sahib is slapping us in the face with this Shabad, saying without Naam everything is reduced to dust, even so we are stuck in emotional attachment to the world and its pleasures.

Daas has to finish with this Shabad, Guru Sahib is giving us Haunslaa (support) saying, nothing has been lost yet, there is still time to wake up, this dream like state will soon perish know this as true. Guru Sahib then goes on to say we should vibrate on the Lords Name night and day, and at the very last instant God shall be our support. Dhann Guru Teghbahadur Jee.

What does Guru Sahib mean when he says living life is like a dream?

How long do dreams last? Not long at all, cannot really put a time to it. This is exactly the same situation with our lives, before we know it we’ve come and gone.

What worldly pleasures have we achieved? WOW HOW EXCITING.
Lets ask ourselves one question, what have we done for the Panth? The least we can do for the Panth is become Atha Pehar Naam Abhiyaasee, as Guru Sahib has commanded us to do so in Gurbaanee. This is the true Parchaar (preaching), our presence given to us by Guru Sahib through the blessing of Naam will be the largest Sevaa (service) we will ever do for the Panth. Only this will lead to the Chardi kallaa of the Panth.

What do we say? Its ok we will take Ammrit later, we will keep Rehit when we get a little bit older, we will Japna Naam, there’s plenty of time yet, we still need to do more Vichaar on Naam before we Japnaa it. How much Vichaar (discussion) do we need to do on Naam, its only an excuse not to Jap it and get into a little social circle with other Gursikhs.

The true Gurmukh will speak very little and keep himself to himself. He knows there’s no talking to do on Naam, one needs to start and just no stop, and leave all experiences to Guru Sahib, this is when we feel the real contentment, we feel like wealthy Kings and Warriors with the profit of Naam along side us, pushing us through Girastee Jeevan (a householders life).

Why are we wasting time in Worldly pleasures and desires, come in to the Sangat and realize the true Love given to us by Naam Abhiyaasee Gurmukhs, this love is genuine and unconditional something we have never experienced before. Please attend as many Keertan and Naam Abhiyaas programmes as we possibly can to spread the love of Naam in to the World. This will only come through Kamaaee (profit) of Naam and Baanee, to keep this Kamaaee close to the Heart one has to protect this through Guru Sahibs Rehit and Ammrit. Nothing is as powerful as the Universes largest power of Naam, blessed to us by Guru Sahib to purify our filthy minds, which in turn purifies the Universe. Vaahiguroo

Life’s a dream and we are wasting it by physically and subconsciously sleeping.

When we are not aware of our subconscious mind, in Gurbaanee it is known as sleeping.

When will we rise and wake up from this dream? The only time we will wake up from this dream in the eyes of Guru Sahib is, when we sell our mind to Guru Sahib through his name and his Rehit, this Gurmukh will then be known as Jagyaasoo (awake/a state of realization). Only through selling our mind to Guru Sahib will we ever be Parvaan (accepted) in Guru Sahibs court, nothing else will even get us close to the court of Guru Sahib, as all is known to be false without the company of Naam.
